Deaths from vaping have recently received attention in almost all media in Sweden, and we at cigge media feel that we should address this in our channels as well, as we want to clarify some questions.
Below, we refer to Sveriges Radio and an interview on P4 Extra with Sveriges Radio’s New York correspondent, Patrik Holmström.
”- It is not really known what has caused these deaths, but what is suspected is that most of these deaths are linked to people smoking e-cigarettes flavoured with THC, which is the active ingredient in cannabis. But one cannot be completely certain that this is the cause.”
Further on P4 Extra, the host talks to Louis Ademark, who is an associate professor of neurobiology. At the end of the interview, the host asks:
Would you say that smoking e-cigarettes is better than regular tobacco cigarettes?
- ”Yes, I would say so based on the knowledge I have today.”
We also googled this ourselves and found a video from Chicago’s ”WGN News” in which they say that these deaths are due to e-juice that is not regulated and contains vitamin E & THC.
Vitamin E in e-juice does not turn into vapour like regular e-juice does, but instead turns into an oil that settles in the lungs and causes inflammation. Vitamin E is the substance that is the main focus in the vaping-related deaths, according to health authorities in the USA, who are currently investigating this.
It is worth mentioning that there have been no deaths in Sweden due to vaping; these cases only concern the USA.

What does an e-juice contain?

· Vegetable Glycerin (VG)

· Propylene Glycol (PG)
PG is just as common as VG; there are many different products containing PG among common food products.
· Water
E-juice contains demineralised water, which means that minerals and salt have been filtered out.
· Flavourings
This varies from e-juice to e-juice, but an e-juice contains various food flavourings, such as strawberry flavouring, chocolate flavouring, etc.
· Nicotine
Our range includes e-juices with or without nicotine. In our product information, we clearly indicate whether the e-juice contains nicotine, and there are several different nicotine strengths as well as nicotine-free options to choose from. To provide information in case you were unaware, nicotine is a neurotoxin, and we urge NO ONE to start using nicotine products if they do not have a need for them.

How can I increase my safety when it comes to e-juice?
If you use electronic cigarettes and are going to buy e-juice online or in a physical store, make sure to do your homework. Only buy e-juice from reputable retailers that sell high-quality e-juice that is safe to use. It is worth spending a little extra to buy e-juice made to the highest quality standards, as we mention in one of our previous posts about safety concerning e-cigarettes & e-juice.
