Batteries for vape: format and compatibility
The battery supplies power to the e‑cigarette's electronics and coil. Some devices have a built‑in battery, while others use removable battery cells. The batteries in this category are intended for devices with replaceable cells.
Battery formats such as 18650, 20700, 21700 and 26650 appear in various devices. The format designation is not a guarantee of compatibility: voltage, terminal design, protection and current rating must also match the manufacturer's requirements. The category's current battery model is the Golisi G30 in the 18650 format.
| Implementation | What does it mean? | What do you check? |
|---|---|---|
| Replaceable battery | A loose cell removed according to the device's instructions | Format, battery specifications and device requirements |
| Built‑in battery | The battery is housed in the device and is not intended for regular cell replacement by the user | Device's instructions for charging and service |
Golisi G30: 18650 battery with 3000 mAh
Golisi G30 18650 (3000 mAh, 20A) is a rechargeable lithium‑ion battery. The following specifications apply to this model according to the product information and the manufacturer's specifications.
- Format
- 18650
- Capacity
- 3000 mAh
- Continuous current
- 20 A
- Nominal voltage
- 3,7 V
The product information states flat top and that the cell lacks a built‑in protection circuit. Use it only in a compatible device with the protection electronics required by the manufacturer.
mAh and ampere indicate different battery characteristics
Capacity and current rating describe different things. A higher mAh value does not automatically mean the battery can handle a higher load. When selecting a battery, both the capacity and the continuous discharge current need to be assessed against the device's specifications.
| Specification | What does it describe? | Things to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity, mAh | Battery's charge capacity | Does not provide a fixed number of hours; runtime is affected by power and usage |
| Continuous discharge current, A | Manufacturer's specified current limit for continuous discharge | Should match the device's requirements and must not be exceeded |
| Pulse current, A | A short‑term load value with specific conditions | Does not replace the continuous current limit when selecting a battery |
The coil's resistance in ohms alone is insufficient to assess the load on the battery. The device's construction, power setting and battery specifications must also be considered. Therefore, it is not possible to specify a single watt value that fits all devices with a given battery.
The external tool Steam Engine shows relationships between electrical quantities. A simplified calculation does not replace the device's manual or the battery's data sheet and does not prove that a combination is suitable.
Charging, transport and storage of vape batteries
Charge loose cells in a compatible battery charger according to the instructions for both the battery and the charger. Golisi specifies a suitable external charger for its cells. Ensure that the charger supports the battery's chemistry and format as well as the correct charging settings.
Battery life is affected by, among other things, power, usage frequency, temperature and wear. Reduced runtime is therefore not in itself a measure of the capacity of a new battery.
Battery wrap and damaged insulation
Battery wrap is the insulating outer covering around the cell. If the covering is damaged the battery should not be used or charged. A new covering does not remedy a damaged or deformed battery cell.
Replacement wraps are used to restore insulation, but any action needs to be assessed and performed according to the manufacturer's instructions. This page does not provide instructions for repairing batteries.
