Shortfill — Products
Shortfill e-juice in larger bottles
Shortfill is a format of e-juice where the fill volume is less than the bottle's total volume. It can, for example, be 50 ml e-liquid in a bottle with space for 60 ml or 100 ml in a 120 ml bottle. The exact fill volume and bottle size vary between products and are stated in each product description.

Mixing guide for shortfill and nicotine shots
The examples below are based on nicotine-free shortfill and nicotine shots with a strength of 20 mg/ml. A 10 ml shot bottle then contains a total of 200 mg nicotine. The tables show the amount of nicotine shot and nicotine-free base liquid for a given final volume. Use only mixtures that are supported by the shortfill product's instructions.
50 ml shortfill in a 60 ml bottle
| Final strength | Nicotine shot | Base liquid, 0 mg/ml | Final volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 mg/ml | 4.5 ml | 5.5 ml | 60 ml |
| 3 mg/ml | 9 ml | 1 ml | 60 ml |
| Approximately 3.3 mg/ml | 10 ml (1 shot) | 0 ml | 60 ml |
100 ml shortfill in a 120 ml bottle
| Final strength | Nicotine shot | Base liquid, 0 mg/ml | Final volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 mg/ml | 9 ml | 11 ml | 120 ml |
| 3 mg/ml | 18 ml | 2 ml | 120 ml |
| Approximately 3.3 mg/ml | 20 ml (2 shots) | 0 ml | 120 ml |
How nicotine strength is calculated after mixing
Final strength (mg/ml) = shot strength (mg/ml) × added shot volume (ml) ÷ final volume (ml).
The final volume includes shortfill, nicotine shot and any nicotine-free base liquid. For the example with 3 mg/ml in 60 ml the calculation is 20 × 9 ÷ 60 = 3 mg/ml. If the shot has a different strength, other amounts apply than those in the tables.
Measure sub‑amounts carefully with an appropriate graduated tool and follow the product's instructions for mixing. Added base liquid can affect both the flavor concentration and the VG/PG ratio. Nicotine is addictive. Store nicotine shots and mixed liquid out of reach of children.
Shortfill by flavor profile
The range is divided according to the manufacturers' flavor descriptions. On Cigge there are separate Shortfill categories for:
Flavor groups
A product may contain several flavor characteristics even if it is placed in a main flavor group. The complete flavor description is therefore on the product page.
Volume and VG/PG ratio
Two pieces of information are particularly relevant when shortfill is compared: fill volume and VG/PG ratio. The fill volume indicates the amount of e-liquid in the bottle, while the bottle size indicates the container's total volume.
The VG/PG ratio describes the proportions between vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol. The ratio varies between products and should be compared with the specifications for the e‑cigarette or tank where the liquid will be used.
Terms for volume and VG/PG
- Fill volume
- The amount of e-liquid in the bottle.
- Bottle size
- The container's total volume.
- VG
- Vegetable glycerin.
- PG
- Propylene glycol.
Shortfill compared to other types of e-juice
Shortfill is part of Cigge's combined category for e-juice and vape juice. Unlike shortfill, longfill usually contains a smaller amount of concentrated flavour in a larger bottle and needs to be completed with base liquid before use.
For a more detailed overview of the format, there is also Cigge's guide on what shortfill is.
