Parts of a vape
A vape, also called an e-cigarette, is an electronic device that uses a battery to heat e-liquid. The device usually consists of a mouthpiece, a coil, a tank or pod, and a battery unit.
The design varies between types of vape. In pod systems and disposable vapes, several components may be integrated, while other models use replaceable coils, tanks and battery cells. Components must always be compatible with the device in question.
Drip tip
A drip tip is the mouthpiece used for inhalation. On some pod systems and disposable vapes, the mouthpiece is integrated into the device, while tank-based models may have a removable drip tip.
The shape, diameter and connection vary between models. A replaceable drip tip therefore needs to have the correct dimensions and be compatible with the tank or pod in question.
Coil
The coil contains a heating element and an absorbent material that carries e-liquid to the heating element. When the device is activated, the e-liquid is heated and forms an aerosol, often called vapour.
Coils come with different resistances and recommended power ranges. The coil must be compatible with the device's pod or tank. When flavour or vapour production changes noticeably, the coil may need to be replaced according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Tank
The tank holds the e-liquid and usually contains a replaceable coil. Tanks differ in volume, filling method, airflow, connection and compatible coil series.
A tank must be compatible with both the battery unit and the coil being used. The product information usually states which coils and devices the tank is intended for.
Battery & Mod
The battery unit supplies power to the coil and the device's electronics. Some vapes have an integrated battery that is charged inside the device, while other models use replaceable battery cells.
A mod is the part that contains the battery, electronics and device controls. The power range, battery type and number of battery cells vary between models. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for compatibility and charging.
Types of vape
Vape devices come in several formats and designs. The main differences are whether the device is pre-filled or refillable, whether it uses replaceable pods or a separate tank, and which settings can be adjusted.
The product information states which e-liquid, pod, coil and battery type are compatible with each model.
Disposable vapes
A disposable vape comes pre-filled with e-liquid and has an integrated battery. It is normally used without manual refilling or coil replacement and is handled as electronic waste when depleted.
The stated puff count is an estimate from the manufacturer. The actual number can vary depending on factors such as puff duration and how the device is used. The range includes models from several manufacturers, including Aroma King.
Pod systems and vape starter kits
A pod system usually consists of a rechargeable battery unit and a replaceable pod. The pod contains the coil and also serves as the container for the e-liquid.
Open pod systems have pods that can be refilled with compatible e-liquid. Closed pod systems instead use pre-filled pods that are replaced when the e-liquid runs out. Vape starter kits may include a device together with a pod, tank or other components needed for that model.

Mods and tank-based vapes
A mod is a battery unit with electronics and controls. It is used with a compatible tank and coil. Mods are available with integrated batteries or support for replaceable battery cells.
Features vary between models. Some have adjustable power, airflow or other settings, while others use automatically adjusted power modes. The tank, coil, battery and recommended power range must always be compatible with each other.

Vape features
Vape devices can have different features depending on the model and design. Some devices are designed with few settings, while others allow the user to adjust settings such as power and airflow.

Auto Draw and button activation
Auto Draw, also called inhalation activation, means that a sensor activates the device when the user inhales through the mouthpiece. This feature is found in devices such as pod systems, vape starter kits and disposable vapes.
Other models are activated by a button. On some devices, the button is also used to turn the device on or off and change settings. Its function varies between models.

Adjustable airflow
Airflow controls how much air passes through the device during inhalation. More restricted airflow increases draw resistance, while more open airflow lets more air through.
Some devices have an airflow control, while others use fixed airflow that cannot be adjusted.
Power and Smart Mode
On vape devices with adjustable power, the power can be set within the coil's recommended range. Power that is too high or too low can affect how the device works and how the e-liquid is vaporised.
Smart Mode is a feature that, on some models, identifies the installed coil and suggests or limits settings to a compatible power range. How this feature works varies between manufacturers.
Display and battery indicator
A vape may use a display or LED indicator to show information such as battery level, power, coil resistance or device status.
The information displayed depends on the model. Always follow the product information and the manufacturer's instructions for settings, charging and compatibility.
Vape juice and e-liquid
Vape juice is the liquid used in refillable vape devices. It is also called e-liquid or e-juice. The liquid is held in a pod or tank and heated by a coil to form an aerosol, often called vapour.
Vape juice is available in different bottle sizes, nicotine strengths and VG/PG ratios. The compatible type depends on factors such as the device's design, the coil's resistance and the recommended power range.
The range includes traditional e-juice, nic salt, shortfills, longfills, base liquids and flavour concentrates for compatible vape devices and pod systems.

Ready-mixed e-juice, 10 ml
Ready-mixed e-juice in 10 ml bottles may contain nicotine or be nicotine-free. Products with nicotine are available in different nicotine strengths and may contain freebase nicotine or nicotine salt depending on the product range.
E-liquid containing nicotine is subject to specific rules covering matters such as bottle size, labelling and the maximum permitted nicotine content. The nicotine strength and VG/PG ratio are stated on the label and in the product information.
Shortfill
Shortfill is nicotine-free e-liquid usually sold in a larger bottle with space left inside. It can be used without nicotine or combined with a compatible nic shot according to the product and manufacturer's instructions.
Shortfills come in different volumes and VG/PG ratios. As the liquid often has a higher VG content, it needs to be used with a vape device and coil suited to the liquid's viscosity.
Longfill
Longfill consists of concentrated flavouring in a larger bottle. It needs to be mixed with the amount of base liquid stated in the product information before use in a vape.
Concentrated longfill flavouring is not intended to be used undiluted. The mixing ratio, final volume and any accessories vary between products and manufacturers.
VG/PG and compatibility
VG and PG are two common ingredients in vape juice. VG makes the liquid more viscous, while a higher proportion of PG gives it a thinner consistency. The ratio affects which type of coil and vape device the liquid is compatible with.
Not all types of vape juice are therefore suitable for all vape devices. Always check the product information for both the e-liquid and the device before use.

Vape use and care
How a vape is used and maintained depends on the device's design. Always follow the product information and the manufacturer's instructions for charging, refilling, settings and compatible components.
Check compatibility
The pod, tank, coil and e-liquid need to be suited to the device in question. Check that the components are fitted correctly and that the coil is used within the power range specified by the manufacturer.
A new coil or refillable pod may need to absorb the e-liquid before the device is activated. The product instructions state how long this takes.
Charging and maintenance
Use a charging cable and power source that meet the device's specifications. The device should not be charged if the battery, charging port or casing is damaged.
Condensation and small amounts of e-liquid may collect at the pod or tank connection. Gently wipe the contact surfaces with a dry cloth. Electrical parts and battery units must not be submerged in water.
The pod or coil may need to be replaced when vapour production changes, the flavour changes noticeably or the product shows visible signs of wear.
Storage and recycling
Store vape devices and e-liquid in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight and out of reach of children and pets. Products containing nicotine must be handled according to the information on the packaging.
Vape devices, disposable vapes and batteries must not be disposed of in household waste. Take them to a recycling centre or another approved collection point for electronics and batteries.
Vaping and tobacco smoking
Vapes and traditional cigarettes are different product categories that work in different ways. A cigarette burns tobacco and produces smoke. A vape instead heats e-liquid and produces an aerosol, often called vapour.
This difference in technology does not mean that using a vape is risk-free. The Public Health Agency of Sweden states that e-cigarettes may contain nicotine and other substances that pose health risks. Research into long-term effects is still ongoing.
Nicotine
Traditional cigarettes contain nicotine. Vape juice is available both with and without nicotine. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance, regardless of the type of product it is found in.
The nicotine strength of an e-liquid is usually stated in milligrams per millilitre. Information about ingredients and nicotine content is provided on the product's packaging and in the product description.
Different processes
Tobacco smoking involves combustion that produces smoke. In a vape, the coil heats the e-liquid without burning tobacco.
The aerosol from a vape is not just water vapour. Its composition is affected by factors such as the e-liquid formulation, coil, power and how the device is used.
